The Key To The Mysterious Garden

Suppose I knew of a secret, mysterious garden, surrounded by a high wall with only one gate leading into it.  In the garden were placed riches and beauties of all kinds.  I found out that someone was willing to give me the special key to this wondrous place.  How I would clamor and beg for this key!

I found out that the key is prayer which opens the gate and permits me to walk into this garden of unbelievable beauty and wealth. On the bench in the garden sits the Lord, the same Gentle Person of the Gospels.  I can sit down with Him and converse with Him about anything I wish.  He gives His full attention to me as if I were the only person in the world.

As I share my thoughts and visions with Him, He is constantly reaching out to pluck a fruit from a tree, or pick up a precious stone at His feet, or a lovely flower and putting them in His hands. Because of my love and faith which are showing through my words, He puts blessings in the form of these gifts of the garden into my pockets and heart.  In a short time, I have riches of all kinds to make my life more fulfilling.

Reluctantly, I rise to leave. What a pleasant, relaxing experience it has been to sit with my Friend, the Lord Jesus.  I am grateful to those who gave me the key to this splendid garden – that which is prayer.  These visits changed my life.

  1. What a beautiful gift you have given all of us Fr. George! Each time I enter a church or Adoration chapel…am going to “heartfully” remember this beautiful garden where Our Lord waits to hear our prayers and share His Love. Your words are paintings of faith and love! Thank you Fr. George for all you do for us, His sheep! A Blessed Lenten season…and Happy St. Valentine’s Day❤️ Blessings & Gratitude, Marianne

  3. I believe that prayers are very powerful aides. I had colon cancer in 2011 and it turned out that I was allergic to chemo. I thought I was on my way to meet Jesus, but I had a lot of people praying for me and here it is 2016 and I am still in remission. Of course I had a wonderful surgeon who “got it all out”.

    Take good care Father.

  5. Beautifully written! Yes, so many would clamor for this key! I think that people do clamor for ‘something’ and in such unhealthy ways: alcohol, drugs, food, pornography addiction, material items, etc… I always think about this when I see something on Facebook: it will show that 1 or 2 MILLION people have viewed a certain video clip (they now call that ‘going viral’) and I think, if 1-2 million people would only turn to God – imagine the power of that, and the peace that they would feel in their hearts!

I am guilty of not always turning to God – and feeling that I am not worthy of His love because I have sinned and know that I will sin again. Having this ‘peaceful garden’ to turn to would enrich my life. I do pray daily but sometimes it feels more like a chore than a wonderful gift of the key to peace. Pray for me that I always see prayer as the gift that it is! I love you, dear Fr. George!
