A new day dawns, A New Year Beckons,
May God’s Peace and Love be with all of you!

During times of peace, the arts flourish and the things of the spirit receive attention.  The paintings of artists, the works of sculptors and musicians, the writings of poets and essayists reach a high level of genius.

Look into your own life and you will discover that the high point of your accomplishments came when you had a deep peace in your spirit.  By accomplishments I mean the works of the spirit, such as an appreciation of God in your life, a burning love for those about you, an open heartedness to the messages life was bring you from God.

You need this harmony within you in order to make progress in living a fulfilled life.  The Lord offers you peace without strings attached.  You must be willing to accept His offer believing that this quietness of spirit is possible for you, even in the midst of this troubled world.

Drive out of your inner world the enemies of peace!  Spitefulness, a wish to “get even” with those who have mistreated you, a coldness towards all people because you have been hurt so often, the keeping alive of old “fires” and feuds – all these keep our spirit bubbling and boiling in a sea of poisonous mixtures.  “Peace be with you.”  Jesus says.  As 2013 comes to a close, and we look forward to the year ahead, may Christ’s Peace be with all of you!

  3. Hi Father George! Thank you for the reminder to stop and let the peace of God enter into our lives. I was able to go to see the ballet The Nutcracker yesterday – for free! And I sat there and just enjoyed the beautiful dancing and music. It was a welcomed moment of joy and peace during these hectic times! It was so nice talking to you on Christmas. I did get into a mass near Tim’s mom’s house – so I felt very happy receiving the Host on Christmas. Today off to a baby shower for a friend – pregnant with TWINS! Double the blessing!

Love you! Thank you for the blog – you are such a great writer and so important to me! Love, Nancy

  5. Hi again, Fr. George! Happy New Year! I re-read this post and something else struck me about it when I read it today. The last paragraph about driving out the enemies of peace. That is SO true. People get so stuck on feeling righteous and spiteful, they do not know that it really is hurting themselves the most. I saw a saying once: “Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die from it”. I think you are both saying the same thing! I am striving every day to be the person that I know God wants me to be, loving and seeing the good in everyone – and to those that are holding grudges against me or worse, I can only pray for them that their hearts will thaw and they will come to see that loving one another really is all that Jesus has asked us to do. Thank you again for always putting into words the things that I know are in my heart but cannot always express. Love you!, Love, Nancy
