God is Good!

Seek the Lord while He may be found!

Are You Listening?

Joan of Arc

Once upon a time, some centuries ago, a young peasant girl in France heard voices telling her to lead the French forces against the English invaders.  Joan of Arc, the girl’s name, certain of the voices being from God, donned shining armor and on a white horse brought the glorious victories to the French nation.  The French King asked her, “Why do you, a youth, have these voices speaking to you, and I, the King, do not have them speaking to me?”  St. Joan said, “Sire, the voices are speaking to you, but you do not listen.”

Every day God is communicating with us to bring enrichment and fulfillment to our lives.  As His creatures He did not call us into existence to forget about us and our happiness.  Possibly, because He doesn’t appear in visible form, we conclude that God has nothing to say to us.  After a while, we simply stop listening and close our minds to any messages from God.

In fact, God is bombarding us with ideas to help us improve our way of living.  In His wisdom, He uses many simple, everyday means to reach our minds like the Holy Scripture, ordinary conversations with family or friends, movies, dramas, our reading matter and talks on the radio.

What is God saying to me today?  If we started out each day with an inquisitive mind, and eagerness to bring new stimulating ideas into our thought, we would find a special excitement and thrill in living.

How tragic to have this attitude, “I know everything.  My way is the only way.”  Listen to the voices of your children, your friends.  Humble yourself by asking others, “How would you deal with this situation if it were present in your life?” In seeking the ideas of others about life, we are not showing any weakness or overdependence on them.

  1. Hi Fr. George! I think that this is such an important message to get across. SO many people do not believe that God is there for them and they only go to Him in prayer when they need something, almost using God as a wishing well. God is there every minute of every day. As Scripture says, ‘He knows our thoughts before we form them’. I miss you and hope that you are well, dear friend. We are doing fine here in WA, beautiful weather and lots of garden veggies this year! I have started a letter to you and hope to finish it soon and mail it. You are in my thoughts and prayers daily.

    Love you,
